Olav Tryggvason was the King of Norway from year 995 to year 1000. He was a naval warrior and a king known for his brutal efforts to Christianize the country. He is considered one of the key figures in Norway’s transition from Norse paganism to Christianity. He built Norway’s oldest church at Moster in year 995 and founded the city of Trondheim in year 997. Olav took part in several naval battles and is said to have built the legendary longship Ormen Lange, one of the largest ships of the Viking Age.
